Taramosalata – Greek Fish Roe salad dip
Taramosalata is an amazing Greek Fish Roe salad dip/spread that is very popular during Lent fasting. It is very easy to make and you only need 4 ingredients!

What is Taramosalata?
Taramosalata is an amazing Greek Fish Roe salad dip/spread very popular during the Lent fasting and Ash Monday. It is usually made with bread, lemon juice some type of oil, and fish roe but there are also plenty of recipes where you can also use potatoes or even skip the bread and potatoes altogether.
It goes well with any type of legumes dishes such as Fasolada (White bean soup) or Faki (aka Fakes – Lentil soup) and even a big variety of vegetable dishes. On top of that, it makes an awesome dip for Lagana bread (Greek-style sesame bread) that we make in Greece during Ash Monday.

How to make the Greek Taramosalata (fish roe salad)
Taramosalata Β is very easy to make and you only need 4 ingredients to make it: Bread, lemon juice, vegetable oil, and fish roe. You may use white or pink fish roe but I prefer to use white because I believe it tastes better. The type of bread that you will use makes a difference in the texture of the salad. White bread makes a smoother fish roe salad while the alternative is a bit coarser. Toast bread is also a very good white bread for this recipe.
Make sure you make this awesome salad dip and enjoy it with your favorite legumes or vegetable dishes!

Taramosalata – Greek Fish Roe salad dip
Ingredients:
- 150g white Fish Roe (3 Tbsp)
- 80g Lemon Juice (about 1,5 lemons / 2.8oz)
- 220ml Vegetable oil (I prefer sunflower oil / 7.7oz)
- 330g white stale Bread soaked in water and drained* (crust removed /11.6oz)
Instructions:
- Soak the bread into the water for a few minutes until you are able to easily remove its crust, drain it, and set it aside.
- Use your hand blender or your kitchen machine to blend the fish roe with the lemon until it gets fluffy. (only for a few seconds)
- Add the soaked and drained bread, alternating with the vegetable oil little by little, blend them all together, and your Taramosalata -Fish roe salad dip is ready!
- You may add or remove lemon juice according to your likes.
Notes:
- *The measurement for the bread is for a pre-soaked bread with the crust and everything. It is best to soak the whole bread loaf so you have it ready in case you need more than 330g.
